The construction of a story has very little to do with writing. It has to do with the semi-magical process of you taking disparate pieces of information, combining them into something new, which includes your experience and understanding, and then giving them to someone else.

A Story Culture from Rands in Repose

Essentially, this what I’m trying to do here. It’s chemistry. Or maybe alchemy. Take disparate bits of data or quotes or information, and mash them together into meaningful narratives and ideas. I find that when reading someone else’s writing, the more diverse the references, the more entertained I am. And the more I learn.

There’s an explicit reason I reference hand axes and antiquities, Cheetos, Blade Runner and jazz structure. They’re all part of the fabric of our lives (screw you Cotton Coop for using that before I could, and turning a really good ending into a cheeseball finale).
